Since its inception 105 years ago Imperial Yacht Club has followed a proud tradition of developing young sailors. Sailing at IYC is a family sport where everyone can be involved. You can choose between socializing on the shore and enjoying a snack and drink from the galley, relaxing with a quiet and laid-back sail, or competing in club and away regattas. Either way, you will be with a great bunch of people, have a ton of fun, and make lots of friends.
Imperial Yacht Club is dedicated to promoting sailing amongst kids. Our trainers assess students and place them on a course with an appropriate boat. The Zandvlei Nature Sanctuary is shallow enough to stand in most parts which allows for safe and easy training, and provides a sense of security to younger and less confident sailors. We train using a number of dinghies, O9'ers for first time novice sailors, Optimist for juniors who are ready to progress, and the Dabchick for teenagers. For adult training we make use of the club "Duck".
